The University of Montevallo baseball team (13-36) split with Carson-Newman College (31-18) this afternoon (May 1). UM won the first game 6-4 in 11 innings and fell in the nightcap 11-1. Sophomore Duston Daugherty (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) hit a two-run homerun in the bottom of the 11th in the first game to give the Falcons their first win in seven games. The Falcons also honored 11 seniors prior to the doubleheader.

Senior's Justin Aaron (Morris, Ala./Mortimer Jordan), John Michael Caraway (Trussville, Ala./Clay-Chalkville), Michael Fields (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East), Kevin Garcia (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Dunedin), Nelson Garcia, Jr. (Tampa, Fla./Sickles), Kyle Johanson (Bowman, Ga./Elbert County), Cory Luckie (Fairhope, Ala./Fairhope), Caleb McLeod (Pleasant Grove, Ala./Pleasant Grove), Andy Revell (Albertville, Ala./Albertville), Chris Sosebee (Warrior, Ala./Sumiton Christian) and Heath Tapscott (Hartselle, Ala./Hartselle) were all honored in a pregame ceremony.

The Falcons were led in the doubleheader by Luckie who went 3-for-6 at the plate with a double and a run scored. Sosebee went 2-for-6 with a run scored as well. Daugherty picked up two RBI to lead the team while Garcia, Jr. and freshman Chandler Tyree (Oxford, Ala./Oxford) had one RBI each.

Tapscott, Caraway and junior Kyle Butler (Powder Springs, Ga./McEachern) held the Eagles to just three hits in game one over 11 innings. Two Falcon errors allowed the Eagles to score their four runs as only one run was earned. Tapscott pitched the first 6.2 innings while striking out nine and walking just two. Caraway then took over and pitched 2.2 innings with three strikeouts and just one walk. He also held the Eagles to no hits. The final pitcher was Butler who went 1.2 innings with two strikeouts and a walk. Butler took home the extra inning win as his record improved to 2-4 on the season.

In the second game Aaron started the game and took home the loss as he pitched just one third of an inning. Johanson pitched the next 1.2 innings with a strikeout followed by McLeod who pitched 3.1 innings with a strikeout as well. Fields pitched the next 1.1 innings and had a strikeout followed by freshman Kevin Richardson (Hoover, Ala./Spain Park) who pitched just one third of an inning with one strikeout.

All 11 seniors saw the field on senior day and were taken off one at a time to a standing ovation from the 200-plus fans in attendance.
