The University of Montevallo baseball team (6-11, 0-3 PBC) dropped its fourth-straight game and third-straight to USC Aiken (8-6, 3-0 PBC), 15-4. The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first two innings but allowed Aiken to score 15-straight runs including 10 in the fourth before they answered with two more in the eighth. UM was led by senior Chris Sosebee (Warrior, Ala./Sumiton Christian) who went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.
Senior Andy Revell (Albertville, Ala./Albertville) led the team with two RBIs as he went 1-for-4 with a home run and a run scored. Junior Josh Dabbs (Hueytown, Ala./Hueytown) had the only other UM RBI as he went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Senior John Michael Caraway (Trussville, Ala./Clay-Chalkville) got the start on the mound and went 3.1 innings with a strikeout and three walks. He took home the loss as his record fell to 1-2 on the season. Sophomore Wes Rich (Pelham, Ala./Pelham) pitched the next 0.2 innings with a strikeout. Junior Joey Noro (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) took over for the next 3.1 innings and struck out five while walking one. Freshman Kevin Richardson (Hoover, Ala./Spain Park) pitched the next inning and gave up just one hit. Senior Michael Fields (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) closed out the game going 0.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts.
The Falcons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as they scored a run in the first and the second. UM scored in the first off an RBI single by Dabbs which scored sophomore Duston Daugherty (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) who had walked to lead off the game. The Falcons then tacked on a run in the second as sophomore Josh Headley (Gardendale, Ala./Gardendale) scored on an error by the shortstop.
The Pacers scored two in the third to tie the game and then blew the game open in the fourth as they scored 10 runs off of seven hits including a grand slam. They scored three more in the fifth to go up 15-2. UM held them scoreless the rest of the game but that would not be enough as the Falcon offense never got rolling.
Revell gave the Falcons two more runs in the eighth as he hit a two-run homerun to left centerfield.
The Falcons will return to action Wednesday, March 3 at 3:00 p.m. as they travel to Stillman College.
