Helene Nordgreen
Team: Women's Tennis
Year: Sophomore
Hometown: Bergen, Norway
Helene is returning to compete in her second season with the Falcons. Tennis season has not started yet, so The Alabamian decided to check how she is staying occupied during the offseason.
The Alabamian: What are your impressions after the first season competing for the Falcons?
Helene: Well, I thought it was a lot of fun. I like to travel and go new places. I got to visit three or four new states, so that was pretty cool. I hope that next year we can do even better.
The Alabamian: Can you tell me anything about the tennis team that nobody knew before?
Helene: A cool thing about our team is that we all are pretty different, but we get along well and spend a lot of spare time with each other, which hasn't necessarily been the case with previous tennis teams on the Montevallo campus.
The Alabamian: What do you do during the offseason?
Helene: Right now, I hang out with people, I study a lot, and we just started with 6:30 am workouts. That is keeping me busy.
The Alabamian: Do you think anyone could play tennis?
Helene: Yeah. Tennis is a sport for everyone. But if you want to be good at it, you need to play it often, I am talking about 10-15 hours a week at least. I started playing when I was seven, and I think it is an advantage if you start at the young age. Anyone can play, but not anyone can be good.
The Alabamian: What was your most embarrassing moment, playing tennis?
Helene: I have had moments when I got pissed off on the court and yelled many words that should have never come out, but I do not have anything to be embarrassed about.
The Alabamian: How do feel about other sports?
Helene: I love all sports. I like to do sports, I like to watch sports. One of my favorite ones is obviously tennis. Besides, I like soccer and winter sports like skiing and triathlon. I also like to watch handball.
The Alabamian: How would you describe yourself?
Helene: I am not loud, but that does not keep me from saying what I mean. I have periods when I have a lot of energy and when I do not have any energy. I am usually positive and chill about most things. Overall, I am pretty laid back.
The Alabamian: How do you spend your free time?
Helene: Well, I can't really tell you (laughs)... I like to travel, go to the movies, and go out… when I have money. If I do not, I like just to chill, watch TV, or listen to music. Currently, my iPod, laptop, and TV are broken, so I am trying to work on getting entertainment back to my room.
